A 'Muthalik episode' in Congress

Last Updated 24 March 2014, 19:22 IST

If the BJP faced embarrassment on Sunday by inducting Sriram Sene founder Pramod Muthalik to the party and withdrew the decision within a few hours, it was the turn of the Congress Dakshina Kannada district unit to face a similar embarrassment on Monday.

Advocate Dinakar Shetty, who is one of the accused in the infamous Mangalore pub attack incident, was inducted into the Congress at a convention on Monday morning, raising many eyebrows.

Facing severe opposition from within the party, the District Congress Committee president issued a press release in the evening, stating that it had been decided not to induct and issue the party’s membership to Shetty. Former MLA Vijaykumar Shetty is said to have played a key role in inducting Dinakar Shetty into the Congress.
