BJP State President Pralhad Joshi, Geetha Shivarajkumar of the JD(S) and ex-Infoscion V Balakrishnan of AAP are among the 84 candidates who filed their nomination papers for the Lok Sabha elections, on Monday.

The last date for filing nominations is March 26. The last date for withdrawal of candidature is March 29.

Pralhad Joshi, a sitting MP from Dharwad, is trying his electoral fortunes for the third time. Geetha, daughter of the late chief minister S Bangarappa, filed her nomination papers for the Shimoga seat. Her film star husband accompanied her. She is the first lady member of the Bangarappa clan to enter electoral politics.

Interestingly, brothers Ramesh Katti and Umesh Katti from the BJP have filed their papers in Chikkodi. Ramesh Katti, the sitting MP from Chikkodi, is younger brother of MLA Umesh Katti. The Congress’ nominee and minister Prakash Hukkeri is yet to file his papers here.

It is a custom for both the Kattis to file nominations as a safe bet. Even if the papers of one sibling is rejected on technical grounds, then at least the other would be in the fray.

If both nominations are found in order, then one would  withdraw from the contest. The choice of the BJP is the sitting MP.

Former minister Revu Naik Belamagi filed papers as the BJP nominee in Gulbarga to take on Union Minister Mallikarjun Kharge. BJP leader B S Yeddyurappa’s man G S Basavaraj, sitting BJP MP from Tumkur, filed his papers in Tumkur. Here he will be taking on Congress’ Muddahanume Gowda.
