Hoskote villagers threaten to boycott polls

Last Updated 27 March 2014, 17:45 IST

Villagers of 7th Hoskote Gram Panchayat have warned of staging a protest before the deputy commissioner’s office and boycotting the Lok Sabha election, if the district administration fails to take action to add the 3rd division of 7th Hoskote GP to Kambinane GP.

Addressing mediapersons on Thursday, Nagarika Horata Samithi President Lav Shanthappa said that their village is at walkable distance from Kambinane panchayat.

The village was a part of Kambinane in the past. Later, it was added to 7th Hoskote GP due to political pressure.

But, Hoskote GP is quite far from Kambinane causing inconvenience to the villagers. There is lack of transportation facility, he complained.

“With a large number of villagers working as daily wage labourers, they are forced to shell several hundreds of rupees on autorickshaw to go to the panchayat office to pay water bill, revenue etc.

During such visits, if the officer is not in the panchayat office, the daily wage labourers only lose their day’s salary,” he said.

The village has 1,200 voters and the villagers have been demanding to include their village to Kambinane, but their requests have not been heard.

Therefore, we are now demanding a decision on our request within 10 days, failing which we will stage a protest in front of the DC’s office and boycott parliament election, he said. He was accompanied by other villagers.
