Contractors get reprieve in fake bill scam case

Last Updated 27 March 2014, 19:43 IST

The High Court on Thursday stayed the blacklisting of Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) contractors in connection with the multi-crore fake bills scam reported from three Assembly constituencies of Gandhinagar, Malleswaram and Rajarajeswarinagar.

Hearing a petition by M N Nagesh and others, challenging BBMP decision to blacklist over three hundred contractors, Justice Abdul Nazeer stayed the order for a period of three months.

The Additional Director General of Police (CID) had called for blacklisting some contractors and transfer of engineers to non-executive posts over their alleged collusion.

The CID, which probed the Rs 1539-crore scam in 2011, had submitted a report based on which the government recommended blacklisting of contractors.

The petitioners, however, contended that the State government cannot blacklist them, after the work was completed and completion certificate was issued. Contending that they were not given either notice or chance to present their case, the petitioners sought the stay.
