Navaratra blessings on phone

Last Updated 01 April 2014, 19:36 IST

Devotees, who return without having a darshan of Goddess Durga during navaratras owing to the huge rush at the temples or those who fail to reach there because of other preoccupations, need not be disappointed anymore.

The goddess would bless all such devotees on their cell phones.

The pandas (priests) at the famous Vindhyavasini Devi temple in Uttar Pradesh’s Mirzapur district, about 300 kilometres from here, have made a special arrangement for such devotees this time.

The devotees only have to dial the concerned priest of the temple. The priest starts chanting the vedic mantras on the phone itself and the devotee only has to listen to it attentively with folded hands back home. He can also hear the sound of the temple bells.

The priest asks the devotee to pay the daskshina (a payment made to the priest after the puja is over) into his bank account after the puja is over.

The priests say millions of devotees from across the world come to Vindhyachal Temple, a shaktipeeth, situated in the Vindhya ranges. According to the hindu mythology, the eyes of Shakti (goddess of power) had fallen at the place where the temple was situated.

“Owing to their preoccupation, a large number of devotees fail to pay obeisance here during the navaratras. So for them, we have started this system,” said a temple priest. The payment of dakshina was not a problem anymore. “The amount could be deposited into the savings account from anywhere,” he added.
