12 years after, sites in sight for Arkavathy allottees

Many of them have been given alternative plots

After 12 years of legal battle with landlosers, the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) has finally started to issue allotment letters to the rightful allottees of Arkavathy Layout. However, most allottees are being provided with sites other than the ones they were initially alloted. This has made them unhappy.

The BDA, since the last week of March 2014, has dispatched 1,700 allotment letters. “We are issuing 8,600 allotment letters as promised by chief minister. While 3,600 allottees are getting sites originally allotted to them, 5,000 of them are getting alternative sites in a layout spread across 16 villages.

As the original layout plan has changed due to litigations and deletions, the sites have been relocated. People are now getting sites on the layout periphery, where development was not planned earlier,” a top BDA official told Deccan Herald.

Presently, sites without facilities are being allotted “BDA never promised facilities. Providing facilities will take six months to one year. All 8,600 allottees have been assured that their sites will not be denotified and will receive their allotment letters by the end of April. The delay is because most officials concerned are on election duty,” the official added.

G Shivaprakash, President of the Arkavathy Layout Allottees’ Association said: “People are receiving two types of letters - one, reconfirming old sites and the other stating new allotment. Most people are getting new allotment letters. It seems like letters have been dispatched in a hurry just to keep their word, as there is no development on ground. But we are happy as something is happening after nearly 12 years.

Many allottees, however, are unhappy with alternative sites offered. Sixty-one-year old Krishnaraj had initially got a 30x40 sq ft site in Thanisandra 6th Block.

But, he has now been given a site in Saraipalya, Thanisandra 15th Block.

“I applied eight times to secure a site in various BDA layouts. I had applied for a site in Arkavathy layout ten years ago and was unable to register my site then because of litigations. I received the allotment intimation letter stating that I have been given an alternative site because my site has been cancelled under the redo case. I have been given the alternative site in a desolate area. I will visit BDA to understand the next course of action and also to check if my alloted plot can be changed,” he said.
