Farooq calls BJP a party of liars

Last Updated 07 April 2014, 21:21 IST

Ruling National Conference president and Union Minister Dr Farooq Abdullah on Monday filed his nomination for Srinagar parliamentary constituency going to polls on April 30.

Abdullah accompanied by his son and Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah state Congress president Prof Saif-ud-Din Soz, submitted his papers before the Returning Officer (Deputy Commissioner Srinagar).

Talking to reporters after filing his papers Dr Abdullah termed the BJP, a party of ‘liars.’ “The BJP leaders are liars. As far as Article 370 (which gives special status to J&K state) is concerned, they had said they want to discuss the issue, but no such talks happened,” he said.

“As far as Article 370 is concerned we will never allow anybody to abrogate or touch it. The people of India will vote for the secular forces as communal forces have already been rejected by the voters at large,” he said.

Negating that there was any ‘Modi wave’ in the country the NC patriarch said contrary to it, the graph of the Congress is on high.

However, he was quick to add that you cannot say what will happen tomorrow. “The real picture will be out only on May 16,” the Union Minister added.

Meanwhile, Omar Abdullah while mocking at the election advertisement of BJP (Aabki bar Modi sarkar), said, “It appears more like a dictatorship party than a democratic one.”

“We would have accepted it if they would have said this time BJP or NDA government but what they are projecting is indeed tantamount to undermining the role and works of other senior BJP leaders. We are tired of hearing Abki bar Modi Sarkar slogan now; let us move on,” Omar added.

Commenting over the election manifesto of BJP, wherein abrogation of Article 370 was promised, he claimed that the Article cannot be removed from the constitution. “We cannot abrogate Article 370 without reopening the question of accession of Jammu and Kashmir with India. If BJP is ready to reopen the question, we have no problem,” he said.

“Please tell me what BJP did over the Common Civil Code, Ram Mandir and Article 370 when BJP was in power. When I was the part of NDA- no effort was made. The same is being repeated at present. BJP is again trying to hoodwink people of India,” the Chief Minister alleged.
