Mystery vandalism resurfaces, many vehicles damaged

As many as seven two-wheelers and three cars parked on roads in Shivajinagar, Frazer Town and Bharathinagar police station limits were damaged after miscreants pelted stones at them, between 10.30 pm and 11.45 pm on Friday.

The miscreants, who brandished swords, created panic among people who rushed to their homes for safety. The stone-pelting also injured two people.

The police, however, are yet to ascertain the nature of the incident. They are not ruling out any possibility, saying it could be the result of a scuffle between two groups or an act of vandalism by some miscreants.

Few months ago, Yeshwanthpur, Banashankari and Kumaraswamy Layout areas had also witnessed vandalism of vehicles and shops by the miscreants who were subsequently arrested by the police.

Meanwhile, unidentified persons damaged a car parked in front of a house on Plain Street in Commercial Street police limits on Friday night.

The incident came to light on Saturday morning. The accused reportedly used sticks to damage window panes. There were no valuables inside the car.

Five arrested

City police on Saturday arrested five persons in two different robbery cases.
Shankarapura police nabbed three persons and recovered 12 gold chains and eight bikes worth Rs 10 lakh. The accused are Sanju of Byrasandra, N Sandeep Kumar of Hanumanthnagar and Krishna of Byrasandra.

Police said the accused used to attack women at desolate places and snatch their chains. They also stole tubes, tyres and other spare parts of vehicles parked outside houses in Siddapura, JP Nagar, Jayanagar, KG Nagar, Subramanyapura, Hanumanthnagar and Shankarapuram, police said.

In another incident, Subramanyapura police arrested Ganesh of Doddakallasandra and Venkatesh for allegedly robbing women and recovered gold chains worth Rs one lakh and a bike. The accused had robbed Kusuma of her gold chain in RBI Layout on August 21 and Seetamma on Uttarahalli Main Road in Canara Bank Colony on November 10.

Illegal transport of spirit

Excise department officials arrested four persons and recovered spirit and a four-wheeler worth Rs 10 lakh in K R Puram on Saturday.

The accused have been identified as Narendra Babu, Sadique Pasha, Dabak Misra and Mukesh. They were transporting the spirit in 18 plastic cans. The arrest was made based on tip-off.

Chain snatched

Two unidentified bike-borne miscreants snatched a woman’s gold chain, worth Rs 50,000, when she was standing in front of her house in Nagarbavi 1st stage here on Friday evening.

In her complaint lodged with the Jnanabharathi police, Sumana said that the incident took place around 6:30 pm.
