Venture into the great wild this season

TRIBAL PRINTS
Last Updated 10 April 2014, 15:40 IST
For those fond of prints, tribal is in these days.  Colourful and vibrant, tribal prints are the latest trend this season.

Designer Pia Pauro’s collection at Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week Spring Summer 2014 gives a peek into this style statement which has become a hit internationally.

She takes fashion followers into the wild this season with her collection.

Giving a strong sense of nomadic life, her collection drew inspiration from African prints. The shades were a mix of yellows, browns, greens and reds.

The criss-cross prints looked outstanding.

The designer even used bolder and larger prints to create a 'jungle’ effect.

She experimented with huge giraffe prints, brighter shades were detailed with equally brighter embroideries and metallic embellishments that were the highlight of the collection.

Colour blocking in green, red and blue portrayed the designer's statement for the upcoming season.

Pia intelligently used feathers as an accessory to go well with the summery dresses.

Interestingly, in the designer’s earlier collection too was an ode to the mountainous terrain of Central Asia, bringing alive the nomadic experience of Uzbekistan
and Kazakhstan.

Tribal trend consists of strong, graphic prints. Black and white graphics mixed with darker prints is a recognisable element which is combined with warm, earthy tones like black, browns, deep reds and oranges and natural accents (straw, wood).

Because the prints are often oversized and strong, they work best on simple shapes like shift dress, tunic or in soft, draped fabrics.

But fit is also very important when going for tribal prints.

Bold prints aren’t always the best at flattering the body, so make sure that whenever you wear them, the piece fits perfectly and shows off the shape.

Start subtly with tribal accessories or more washed out prints if you are not ready for the full trend.

For a casual look an ikat print dress can fulfil your purpose. Pair your sundress with a tribal-inspired wedge.

Since accessories are a great way to experiment with a trend, you can go for fringe bags and shell necklaces with your summer dress for an earthy touch.

Even accessories with natural accents -- an armful of wooden bangles or a beaded cuff -- or matte (not shiny) metallic, set off a perfect tribal look.
