On poll eve, woman held with 1,200 bottles of illicit liquor

On the eve of the general election, a 35-year-old woman was held with 1,236 bottles of illicit liquor in west Delhi’s Uttam Nagar. Three others, including a 40-year-old woman, were also arrested in separate incidents, police said.

Rukmani, a resident of Shiv Vihar JJ Colony, has previous involvement in four cases of Excise Act registered with Uttam Nagar police station. According to a senior police officer, in view of the election, the staff of police stations across that capital were directed to check smuggling of illicit liquor to lure voters.

On Wednesday, a secret information was received that Rukmani was having a large quantity of illicit liquor in her possession.

A raid was conduct at her house in which 32 cartoons of illicit liquor were recovered, and Rukmani was apprehended. “She wanted to sell it during dry days in Delhi to earn good profit,” said Ranvir Singh, Deputy Commissioner of Police (West).

In another incident, staff of Mianwali Nagar police station arrested 40-year-old Kalawati with 49 quarters of country made liquor. Kalawati is a resident of Sardar Patel Jhuggi Camp in Jwalapuri.

On Wednesday, constable Pradeep was patrolling in the area when he saw Kalawati carrying a suspicious looking plastic bag.

On being searched, she was found carrying 49 quarters of country made liquor. On interrogation, Kalawati told police that she brought the seized liquor from Haryana.
The staff of Uttam Nagar police station have also recovered 45 cartons of illicit liquor from a Mahindra Scorpio SUV. The recovery was made during picket checking at Gandhi Chowk in Mohan Garden on Wednesday. At about 8 pm, the SUV was intercepted and on checking illicit liquor was recovery.
“The driver of the SUV fled from the spot,” Singh added.
