Coming into the match following a convincing 11-9, 12-10, 11-4, 11-8 win over G Yeshwanth in the youth boys’ final earlier in the day, BNM TT Academy’s Karthik registered a 11-5, 7-11, 11-5, 11-9, 11-7 win over Canara Bank’s Anirban Tarafdar in the summit clash.

A student of BMS Engineering College, the pacy paddler moved around the table with ease and authority as he rushed to a 7-3 lead before clinching the set.

Anirban and Karthik fought out a tight battle in the second set but the former stepped up to draw parity.

Karthik, worked on a number of different serves to take the third set and went on to clinch the fourth without breaking a sweat. Anirban turned aggressive in the fifth game, winning a couple of points but Karthik held on to claim the crown.

R Madhuri ousted Aishwarya R Bidri 14-12, 12-10, 11-4, 4-14, 11-6 in a thrilling final encounter to win the girls title.

Madhuri looked the underdog so far as movement around the table was concerned but she  held the advantage when it came to smashing.  Aishwarya’s reach helped her gather some points but Madhuri played aggressively to win the first set.
