The day-long event commenced in the early morning with Kadri Yogishwara Mutt Mahantharasa Sandhyanath performing pooja to the Kambala field. Though several traditional competitions, typical of Tulunadu, were held throughout the day, Kambala (buffalo race) was the centre of attraction. Two tracks, Matsyendranatha and Gorakshanatha, had been readied for the buffalo race. There were three categories, namely, hagga hiriya (senior), hagga kiriya (junior) and kanehalage. While the first two categories were decided on the basis of the age of the buffalos, the last one was a separate division, where buffalos were chased by a man who stood on a wooden plate, connected to the plough.  The entire audience appeared thrilled, while the water-mixed mud sprinkled across the field giving a new colour to the special evening.

Earlier to this, traditional games namely kesaru gadde ota (mud race), hagga jaggata (tug-of-war), berichend and tappangai were held in different categories.  The competitions of the day began with Karntaka Bank Chairman P Jayaram Bhat inaugurating the ‘kesarugadde ota’.  Kambala was inaugurated by Kannada Sahitya Parishat former president Harikrishna Punaroor.

In his address, District-in-Charge Minister J Krishna Palemar said he would discuss with the district administration on making official provisions to conduct ‘koli-anka’ (cock-fight), a traditional game of Tuluvas.

MLA U T Khader, Zilla Panchayat President Santhosh Kumar Bhandary, entrepreneurs A J Shetty, Sadanand Shetty, Dinakar Bhat, Chandrahas Shetty and others were present.
During a function held in the evening, Kadri Kambala Guttu Balakrishna Shetty Memorial Award was presented to Vishwanath Kadri Kambala along with a gold medal.
