Water crisis grips Madikeri town

Last Updated 13 April 2014, 17:00 IST

Madikeri is reeling under a severe drinking water crisis. Although the district receives adequate rainfall every year, it faces drinking water shortage.

Kootuhole, source of supplying water to the Madikeri town has gone dry.

The district had received record rainfall six months ago. Inspite of it, the ghost of water shortage continues to haunt the residents. The CMC is supplying water to a few layouts from Pampinakere and an open well near Sudarshana Circle. However, a few more layouts have been depending on water supply through tankers.

The Kootuhole is filled with silt. The storage of water can be increased if the silt is removed. The CMC should show keen interest in removing the silt, said residents.

The promise of supplying water from ambitious Kundamestri project from April 1 has not been fulfilled. The DC has directed the authorities to lift water from Kundamestri to Koothole from April 15.
