State spent ` 850 cr under labour welfare schemes, claims Congress

KPCC General Secretary S S Prakasham has claimed that till date the Congress government has released Rs 850 crore for the welfare of the labour class as against the BJP government which had spent mere Rs 35 crore during its tenure.

Speaking to media persons, Prakasham said that the labour minister in BJP government Bachhe Gowda had spent Rs 35 crore for the welfare of the labourers, of the total Rs 1530 crore alloted through the Labour Board.

“The Congress government has taken up welfare programmes in unorganised sectors as well.  Many benefits comprising PF offices, ESI hospitals are made available for the labourers. Schools and medical education meant for the children of the labourers are available and community halls are built for them,” he said.

Asserting that the Congress is the only party that can save the nation against the menace of terrorism and Maoism, the KPCCI general secretary said that Modi has no moral right to speak against corruption.

“He has a brigade of corrupt people in his party including former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa. The Congress government under the leadership of Siddaramaiah has put all the efforts to provide transparent and corrupt-free governance in Karnataka.”

Speaking on the occasion, KPCCI Labour Cell State General Secretary Satyanarayan said chief minister Siddaramaiah has ensured loan facilities up to Rs two lakh to those who are members in Labour Board for five years. Of the total amount, Rs 70,000 will be given as subsidy. Earlier the amount was Rs 1 lakh.

No moral right

INTUC district president Murali Shetty criticised that Yeddyurappa, Shobha Karandlaje, Raghupthy Bhat and other BJP leaders deserve no ethical stance to raise the issue over Brahmavar sugar factory, as they were least concerned about the factory, while they were in power.
