Brisk activities ahead of polling

It was a common sight to see booth-level officials moving the EVMs towards their respective booths where they have been deputed for poll duty.

There was a steady stream of officials, who gathered at the mustering centre at Hassan Arts College from early morning on Wednesday. EVMs were handed over to them, and various polling processes were explained. 

Speaking to Deccan Herald, DC and Returning Officer V Anbukumar said that KSRTC had made bus arrangements for the benefit of the booth-level officers. 

Each bus carried polling staff of four to five booths along with 25 litres water can,         first aid box, tablets and chocolates to be provided to diabetes patients in case of emergencies. 

Webcasting

Webcasting facility has been made at various centres and students of four engineering colleges had volunteered for the same. 

They would be given a honorarium of Rs 300 each and a certificate. Control rooms have been set up at these engineering colleges, which will be supervised by the college Principal. The webcasting of all the colleges will be monitored at the control room set up at the DC’s office.

More than 300 laptops are being used for the purpose, and out of this 200 laptops have been brought by the students themselves. The remaining has been supplied by the Election Commission. 

Each student has been given an Data Card, which is mandatory, said the DC. Two projectors are being used to monitor the webcasting at the control room, he added.

Counting

With counting scheduled to be held at the Hassan Government Engineering College, the Deputy Commissioner visited the college and supervised the arrangements made at the strong room where the EVMs will be stored. Heavy security arrangements has been made, which will continue up to May 17, he added.
