Voters roil over missing names, not receiving ID cards

The distribution of voter ID cards and photo voter slips continued on Wednesday even as some rued about their names missing from voters list.

Under the direction of Electoral Registration Officers (EROs), Booth Level Officers (BLOs) continued to distribute voter ID cards and slips as much as they could before the polling day in the City.

Prasanna Kumar, ERO from Sarvagnanagar Assembly segment, maintained that till 9 pm on Wednesday, the slips were being distributed to all registered voters and cards were distributed as much as possible.

Meanwhile, confusion prevailed among public as some of them did not receive slips and cards despite registering themselves. Sujatha A, resident from Nagawara said: “During last year's legislative assembly elections I received voter slip and card, this time I did not receive both.”

One of the BLOs maintained that there have been many instances wherein they went to hand over cards and slips to citizens but had to return as houses were found locked.  Hence, some cards and slips have been lying at Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) Ward offices, the person said.

P Laxinarayana Rao, a resident of Prashant Nagar, pointed out that he has been making rounds to BBMP ward office in his locality since four days to get the voter slip. He, however, has not received it.

“The Election Commission ( EC) has been boasting since one month that they will ensure that photo voter slips will be distributed to each and every registered voter. Few residents in my locality have got voter slips issued by candidates but they are authentic as photo voter slips,” Rao rued. Rama R, a resident of Rajajinagar, said she and husband had submitted voter ID card sto the concerned Palike officer of her locality for change in the address, two months ago. She has not received it yet but her husband has.

Palike sources maintained the process of distributing cards and slips started a week ago. A help desk at polling stations will be available on Thursday where people who are registered on the voters’ list can get voter slips, they added.
