Last Updated 17 April 2014, 21:03 IST

With an aim to prevent loss of life and combat emergencies arising out in the monsoon season, the East Delhi Municipal Corporation plans to conduct a survey for identifying potentially dangerous buildings in the area.

The east civic agency plans to complete its survey by June 15 and has asked the engineering department of every zone to complete the required electrical work and fitting by June 30.

“A house to house survey should be conducted with a view to locate dangerous and repairable houses. All municipal buildings including schools, hospitals, dispensaries, staff quarters and offices should be checked,” said the East Corporation.

“The pipes of all the buildings will be checked and cleaned, so that the rainwater can be effectively drained off from their roofs”.

The details of the survey will be shared with the SHOs and the executive engineers of the areas, added the corporation. If the houses are found in dangerous condition, they will be demolished, said an East Corporation’s official.

“In cases of houses found unrepairable and in dangerous condition, necessary action will be initiated. In no case, demolition will be delayed,” added the official. A weekly progress report of the survey will also be prepared and given to the zonal office every Friday.

According to the corporation, a group of labourers with a truck and its driver will be deputed in every zone. “The tools required to carry out repair work should be made available to the concerned departments, so that maintenence work be carried out smoothly in the rainy season,” the civic body said.

The sanitation department has been asked to ensure the de-silting of drains. “The de-silting of drains should be completed by June 15,” the corporation said.
