He had posed as an innocent and had taken a farm for lease. Lakkeri village resident Mohammed Rafiq’s wife Fathima said “We did not know that he was such a bad person. We are in trouble for having given our land. Please do not take our photographs,” she pleaded.

It was said that Nazir had come to Kodagu in July 2005 along with his brother Chota Haji and Yusuf of Kannur. They had taken farm land belonging to Ajeej, Taluk Panchayat former member for ginger cultivation. They had taken 5 acre land for Rs 30,000 to start ginger cultivation.

However, Yusuf who brought Nazir to Kodagu is still missing. Yusuf had two wives. One wife was from Kondangeri in Kodagu. After Nazir left Hosatota, even Yusuf went missing.
Nazir was posing as a good person and was not even looking at other women’s face. Yusuf was running a shop in Hosatota and had taken Yusuf’s house for rent and was living with two women for sometime.

A woman said “Nazir was residing in this room in the month of Ramzan in 2007. However, we do not know what time he used to come and leave the room. He was not mixing with any women. He was interacting only with those from his community. He used to become serious when he comes across any one from other community.”

Circle Inspector V Krishnaiah, Sub Inspector Suresh Kumar and others inspected the makeshift tent and the land which he cultivated. Even Somwarpet Sub Inspector Thimme Gowda and others also visited the spot.

Hosatota shop owner Saidu, his son Shahab, Rafeeq, a labourer who was working for Nazir were interrogated on Monday by the police.
