Ojasvinee, Mihika bow out

India’s Ojasvinee Singh and Mihika Yadav lost their girls singles semifinal clashes to make way for an all Thai final in the Asian Junior Closed Tournament at the DLTA complex.

 
While fourth-seeded Ojasvinee went down fighting to Kamonwan Buayam of Thailand 6-1, 6-7 (6-8), 2-6, Mihika proved to be no match for the fourth-seeded Tamachan Momkoonthod, also from Thailand, losing 1-6, 1-6 on Friday.

The boys’ singles final, meanwhile, will witness two Koreans fighting in the summit clash. Top seeded Duck Hee Lee of Korea staved off a gritty challenge from his doubles partner and fourth seed Weiqiang Zheng of China to rustle up a 6-3, 6-7 (5-7), 7-6 (7-5) victory, while Korea’s Yunseong Chung, seeded third, handed second-seeded Ken Onishi of Japan a 6-0, 6-2 drubbing.

Both Bauyam and Lee have lined themselves for twin victories. Buayam and Yijia Shao of China defeated the Indian pair of Vasanti Shinde and Dhruthi Venugopal 6-4, 6-1 to clinch the girls doubles title.
