Indiranagar Double Road in dire straits

Last Updated 20 April 2014, 21:13 IST

While 100 Feet Road in Indiranagar recently got a fresh coat of asphalt, the Double Road running parallel to it craves for attention.

The road, lined with eateries, restaurants, offices, hospitals and banks on both sides, has long been neglected by the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) authorities.

Riddled with potholes, the road has no footpaths, turning it into residents’ nightmare. A visit to the area reveals that shops have encroached upon the space reserved for footpaths but no action has been initiated by the authorities concerned to evict them.

Residents allege that restaurants use the space meant for footpaths for valet parking. At other places, gradients are so steep that it is impossible to walk on the sidewalk.

The Double Road connects the road from the bus stop to the ESI Hospital. At times, people visiting the hospital trip on the road owing to potholes.

Rajesh, a resident, said, “It is much more difficult during night, given the number of potholes on the road.” While earlier the problem was due to the Foreign Registration Office with many people visiting, there is no sign of improvement even though the office was shifted recently.

At certain places, debris and construction material are dumped on the footpath.
Despite attempts, the area corporator could not be contacted.
