
GK Vijayakumari clinched the girls’ 400-metre gold to net the lone medal for Karnataka on the second day of the 11th National Youth Athletics Championships here on Monday.
Vijayakumari clocked 57.53 seconds to finish way ahead of the second-laced Tiyasha Samaddar of Bengal (59.00s) and Tamil Nadu’s Mariya Rasathi (60.20s).
Maymon Poulose, meanwhile, bettered the national mark in 110m hurdles, clocking 14.03 seconds to successfully defend his title that he won in Guntur last year.
The Kerala boy rewrote the earlier record held by Maharashtra’s Saba Bhagat who had timed 14.06.
Bengal’s Debarjun Murmu, who finished second in 14.25 secs, bettered the previous meet mark which stood at 14.33 seconds in the name of Amit Kumar Singh of Jharkhand.
