Vedike chief's face smeared with cow dung

Two miscreants smeared cow dung on the face of the district president of the Karnataka Komu Souharda Vedike Suresh Bhat Bakrabail, as he was coming out after addressing a press meet in Mangalore on Tuesday.

According to the police, Bakrabail was talking to a couple of people after the press meet, when two youths approached him and smeared cow dung on his face and fled. The public chased the duo and managed to nab one of them, who has been identified as Chetan Kumar Shetty (20).

Following a complaint by Bakrabail, the Mangalore North police have slapped charges of attempt to murder on the suspect. The motive behind the act or whether the act was instigated by some organisation is not known.

At the press meet, Bakrabail had condemned the incident of the Anti-Naxal Force shooting at a cattle trader, at Thanikodu forest checkpost in Sringeri. He had announced that the Vedike would hold a State-level ‘Sringeri Chalo’ protest on April 24.

City Police Commissioner Hithendra said that another suspect Pradeep Pumpwell has also been arrested. During interrogation, Shetty has accepted that he is a Bajrang Dal activist, he said. “We are looking into his background and whether any cases have been filed against him in the past,” Hithendra said.
