Nurse kills daughter

A woman allegedly killed her daughter and later committed suicide on Monday evening at her home in Hulimavu after learning that her husband had married another woman.

Usha, 29, a former nurse, had married Srinath, a cab service provider and a divorcee, and the couple had a daughter Sonika, 6.

Both the families had opposed their marriage as it was an inter-caste relation but later they had agreed, police said.

A few years into the marriage, Usha learnt about Srinath’s live-in relationship.

But Srinath told her that it was a thing of the past and claimed that he was faithful to her. But recently, she learnt about Srinath having another affair and when she confronted him, he physically assault her, police said. He would abuse her every day.

Fed up living with him, she called her up mother Savithramma and told her that she was committing suicide, along with her daughter, as she could not bear the torture of her husband.

She hanged her daughter before committing suicide at 6 pm.

She has left behind a diary in which she narrated in detail the alleged torture by Srinath.
Usha’s family has filed a complaint of dowry harassment against Srinath and his family, who are currently absconding.

Efforts are being made to trace Srinath and his family, police said.
