No value for experts without folklore artistes: Prof B A Vivek Rai

Hampi Kannada University former VC Prof B A Viveka Rai has said that there is no value for folklore experts without folklore artistes. The knowledge of the folklore artistes should be documented.

Speaking after receiving  ‘Bannanje Babu Ameen Janapada Vidwamsa’ award conferred by Udupi Kemmalake Janapada Prakashana here on Sunday, he said that there is a need to preserve folklore culture and introduce to the modern world through modern means of communication.

“We need to work towards including Tulu in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution. Folk culture is known for its rich source of knowledge. However, folk tradition has seen a setback in the last few years. There is a need to create awareness on conserving folk culture,” said Karnataka Janapada Parishat President T Thimme Gowda. He said that there is rich source of knowledge on folk tradition in coastal Karnataka. The experts and organisations should join hands with each other in documenting the knowledge.

Madipu artiste Nittur Mahabala Shetty was conferred on ‘Janapada kalavida’ award.
Karkala Kolake Irvathur Baideru pathri Umesh Anchan and Ramesh Anchan were felicitated on the occasion.
