Woman sets herself ablaze on 'pyre'

A 70-year-old woman committed suicide by setting herself ablaze on a pyre prepared by her in Tylur village near Maddur on Tuesday night.

The deceased has been identified as Chikkatayamma (70). According to police, she doused herself with kerosene and set herself on fire on the pyre she had made.

She had even readied the items required for performing last rites. The incident came to light after neighbours observed fire in front of the house of Chikkatayamma.

Ranganath, the son of Chikkatayamma has lodged a complaint stating that his mother committed suicide dejected over life, police said.
