Wanted for a dozen cases of murders, failed attempts and kidnapping in both Delhi and Gurgaon, a 32-year-old member of a notorious gang was arrested by the Crime Branch of Delhi Police.

According to police, Ravi Kumar was a valuable member of the notorious Sandeep Ghadoli gang, that operates in Delhi and Gurgaon. Arrest warrants had been issued against him by a Gurgaon court, for two cases of attempts to murder and police there had announced Rs 25,000 as reward for his arrest.

He was arrested after police learnt about a week ago, that Ravi would be arriving from Agra to Delhi. Accordingly a trap was laid at DND flyover in south-east Delhi’s Maharani Bagh and he was nabbed despite attempts to flee on being signalled to stop.

“He was mainly involved in purchase and settling issues of disputed properties,” said a senior police officer involved in the arrest operation. Ravi also allegedly ran an extortion racket, during which he committed most of the murders and kidnappings.

Son of a general store owner in south-west Delhi’s Mehram Nagar, Ravi came into prominence after attempting to murder, the pradhan of the village in 2002.

After that he went on a spree of murders and attempts, successfully targeting the owner of the Green Chick Hotel in Gurgaon. His several attempts to kill people include one on a bookie and another on a magazine shop owner in Gurgaon.

Ravi had earlier led a blade fight among the inmates, at Bhondsi jail in Gurgaon in 2008, in which several prisoners were left injured in the rioting.

Different police stations in Delhi and Gurgaon are being contacted to ascertain other cases he could be involved in.
