It's Govt Press vs Students Union

Riding on Arun’s last gasp goal, Students Union edged out Department of Youth Services Hostel 1-0 in the second semifinal.

Students Union will meet Government Press, who outclassed Electronics and Radar Development Establishment (LRDE) 3-1 in the first semifinal, in the final on Wednesday.
LRDE took a shocking lead just four minutes before half-time through Manoj. Govt Press came back into the match when Prem Kumar equalised in the 56th minute. Lokman Singh swelled the lead in the 69th and two minutes later Prem with his second goal of the match ensured a slot in the final for Govt Press.

Students Union dominated and held possession for most part against DYSH. Though Students Union had a couple of chances, their forwards failed to convert the opportunities. In the 26th minute, John’s left-footer from a close range was saved by DYSH custodian Thomas. At the half-hour mark, Philip, who side stepped couple of defenders, gave a peach of a pass to John but the latter’s attempt took the deflection off Thomas before hitting the cross piece.

At the start of the second half Students Union could have gone ahead. However, Philip hit an easy volley from the rightwing over the cross piece. After an hour of play, both teams seemed tired and then simply went through the motion.

When it seemed the match was heading towards a penalty shootout, Arun, pouncing on a rebound from Thomas, put the ball into the net in the first minute of the injury time.

Results (semifinals): Government Press: 3 (Prem Kumar 56th, 69th, Lokman Singh 67th) bt LRDE: 1 (Manoj 41st); Students Union: 1 (Arun Kumar 90+) bt DYSH: 0.
