Leopard trapped

A male leopard was trapped in a cage by the Forest department personnel at Aswalu village in the taluk on Tuesday night.

The six-year-old leopard was later released in the Kallahalla forests of Nagarahole National Park limits. The leopard is said to have pounced on a herd of sheep last week near the village lake.

Speaking to Deccan Herald, RFO Rizwan Ahmed said, the department had placed the cage at a farm belonging to K Shantharaju. “The leopard was injured in an attempt to escape from the cage, and has broken the iron rod of the cage.”

Big cat on the prowl

A calf was killed in a leopard attack at Hongahalli in Gundlupet taluk of Chamarajanagar district on Wednesday. The calf, along with a cow, was teethered in a shed at the house of Subbappa.

The leopard is said to have attacked the calf in the wee hours, and by the time the residents could rush to the spot, the leopard had managed to escape. Forest officials visited the village and assured to place a cage to trap the leopard.
