City BJP chief Harsh Vardhan on Tuesday said Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung should not allow power distribution companies to increase fixed charge in a consumers’ monthly bill from Rs 40 to Rs 100.
He said that power companies were already recovering 8 per cent surcharge on power consumed, 5 per cent as service tax and another surcharge of Rs 57.41 on the first 200 units consumed.
Citing a faulty bill of a power consumer of Trans Yamuna area for the period between February 14 and March 19, Harsh Vardhan said power companies were looting consumers and still demanding a hike in tariff.
The BJP leader demanded that until the audit of the power companies was completed and the report submitted to the government, discoms should not be allowed to increase any kind of fee, surcharge or tax.
