Caught on 'sex tape', godman gets bail

A local court here on Wednesday granted bail to controversial astrologer, Ramaswamy DeviShree, who was arrested after a video surfaced, showing him in a compromising position with unidentified women at his ashram in HSR Layout.

DeviShree was arrested near Krishnagiri in Tamil Nadu on Tuesday, three days after a video broadcast on Kannada television channels showed him in a compromising position with unidentified women. The video was captured by CCTV cameras installed in the ashram, and had been reportedly leaked by the self-styled godman’s driver, Vasanth, after he turned down his demand for money, police said.

The godman is said to have intimidated Vasanth after the video surfaced. He absconded after pro-Kannada organisations staged a protest outside his ashram, demanding his immediate arrest. Vasanth later made a complaint to the police about the threats from DeviShree.

The HSR Layout police on Wednesday produced DeviShree before the 7th Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACMM) court which granted him bail on the condition that he would neither intimidate witnesses nor destroy evidences. The court also directed him to appear before it whenever summoned.
