TN enter final on first-innings advantage

The game all but decided after Karnataka conceded the lead on Tuesday, Tamil Nadu opted for batting practice on the final day, finishing on 270 for nine when the match was called off There were half-centuries for L Suryaprakash (60), KK Sriram (76), Gary Dumenil (57) and Murthy Prabhu (76) in the Tamil Nadu second innings, while left-arm spinner KP Appanna and offie MR Darshan took three wickets apiece for the visitors.

Brief scores: Tamil Nadu: 353 all out in 140 overs  and 270/9 in 97 overs (L Suryaprakash 60, Kaushik Gandhi 30, KK Sriram 76, Gary Dumenil 57, Murthy Prabhu 76; KP Appanna 3-64, MR Darshan 3-53) drew Karnataka: 263 all out in 111 overs.

Aparajit, Shankar sparkle

B Aparajit and K Bharat Shankar slammed centuries as Tamil Nadu took control of their Vijay Merchant Trophy under-16 tie against Karnataka in Visakhapatnam.

At stumps on day two of the three-day contest, Karnataka were 11 without loss after conceding a massive first-innings lead of 163 runs. Tamil Nadu began the second morning chasing Karnataka’s 205 all out, and raced to 368 for five declared on the back of Aparajit’s blazing 186 (234b, 18x4, 3x6) and a slightly more sedate 135 (212b, 20x4) by Shankar. Nihal F Shilar was Karnataka’s most successful bowler with figures of four for 27.

Brief scores: Karnataka: 205 all out in 94.2 overs and 11/0 in 6 overs vs Tamil Nadu: 368/5 decl in 91 overs (Aparajit 186, KB Shankar 135; NF Shilar 4-27).
