RWH in place nearly four decades ago

What is noteworthy is that RWH structures were installed in ‘Maitri,’ located at IVth Cross third block, Koramangala nearly 36 years ago. The term RWH was virtually unknown then.

Credit for this foresight goes to R Sriram, a retired member (Technical) of the then Karnataka Electricity Board. A sloping concrete roof ensures the rainwater slopes down and a passage adjacent to it ensures it is collected. A pipe connects it to an old well in the house.

A submersible pump helps in pumping the water up, which is then used to water the huge garden in place here. His bills which touched Rs 800 a month earlier touch just one-fourth of the cost now. His advice to Bangaloreans: RWH slashes your water bills, so opt for it.
