Patkar slams Swamy for calling her 'Maoist'

Social activist and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Medha Patkar said on Wednesday that Subramanian Swamy,  in order to become the blue-eyed boy of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), is giving false statements.

Patkar said this while reacting to a comment of Swamy in which he has called her a “Maoist”.  “Let him prove that I am a Maoist even when the Maoists themselves would never claim the same. Non-violence for us is a value and not merely a strategy,” she said in  a statement.

The activist said Swamy has started showing his fundamentalist attitude.

“It is shocking to find Subramanian Swamy toeing the line of the fundamentalist and distorting my position, making false statements. It is also because he probably needed to become a blue-eyed boy of BJP, which he has not been, being a late entrant to the party,” Patkar said.

“All the countrymen know that I personally and our organisations stand for the strongest punishment to all the terrorists always. What we are opposed to is only the capital punishment, hanging the culprit. This is based on our sincere commitment to non-violence,” she said.

She also alleged that Swamy was indulging in dirty politics ahead of polls in Varanasi.
“Swamy is indulging in such a fake criticism....just when  Modi is going to poll in Varanasi. Swamy has to defend the communal fervour in BJP’s campaign.” she said.
