Online survey on waste management

Last Updated 08 May 2014, 21:28 IST

In a bid to assess the status of solid waste management practices in the City, an online survey involving citizens is being carried out by Environment Support Group (ESG).

The respondents are to fill details such as methods being adopted in disposing of garbage, how often they were fined by the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike for not segregating waste, and whether their trash is being regularly lifted by pourakarmikas, among others.

The survey will go on for the next two weeks.

ESG research associate David Thomas said: “The main objective is to analyse the current state of municipal solid waste (MSW) management system in Bangalore after the Karnataka High Court directed mandatory segregation of the municipal waste at source. Through this survey, we want to know whether the civic body and the public are following effective waste management measures. We want to know the issues the citizens are facing regarding MSW management in their respective wards or localities.”

The group had carried out a similar survey in August last year. The analysis report of the survey will be submitted to the court.
