A 14-year-old girl is suspected to have committed suicide at her home in Chowdeshwari Layout near Parappana Agrahara on Wednesday after her mother pestered her to delete her Facebook account, the police said.

According to police, Tejaswini, who had passed Class 8, would often use Facebook on her mobile phone.

Her parents, Dasharath and Mohana, tried to dissuade her from spending too much time on the social networking site as she was neglecting studies.

When she didn’t heed their advice, they gave her an ultimatum to delete the Facebook account, the police added.

Before leaving for work on Wednesday, Mohana asked Tejaswini to delete the Facebook account by the time she returned home.

But as soon as everyone left, Tejaswini hanged herself in the bedroom.

Her mother returned home in the afternoon and knocked on the door but did not get a response.

When she opened the door with a spare key, she had the shock of her life: Tejaswini was hanging.

According to the police, they did not find any suicide letter but when they questioned her parents, the story about Facebook emerged.

Whenever her parents dissuaded Tejaswini from using Facebook, she would get upset.

Even when her mother asked her to delete the account, she had got upset, police said.

A case has been registered at Parappana Agrahara police station.

Girls end lives

Two teenage girls reportedly committed suicide shortly after they learnt they had failed the pre-university examination, whose results were declared on Thursday.

One of the victims was later found to have actually passed the examination in first class.

One of the victims, Tejaswini, received a call from her uncle in the morning, saying he just had checked her result on the Internet and that she had failed.

The girl got so depressed that she went to a well near her house at Ittamadu village in Ramanagar district and jumped into it, police said.

Tragically, a while after shocked passersby called her parents and her body was retrieved, it emerged that she had actually passed the exam in first class.

Her uncle tried calling her up but it was too late, police added. The Ramanagar police have registered a case.

In another suspected suicide, Magdalene Maria, 19, a student at St Francis Xavier College, Koramangala, hanged herself at her home in Rajendra Nagar hours after she checked the PUC results and learnt that she had failed, a police officer said.

When her mother, who works as a maid, returned home in the afternoon, the door was open. Suspecting something amiss, she went into the bedroom and found Maria hanging there, the officer added.

“She was an arts student and had cleared all the papers barring history,” the officer said.
