A day after the exit polls were aired by different news channels, the BJP’s internal assessment is that the party is likely to bag between 290 and 305 seats in the Lok Sabha.

The BJP believes that they are riding on electoral success on the back of the outcome in UP, which they claim will give them 50 to 55 seats.

Though the BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi has stayed put in Ahmedabad meeting leaders, he is expected to come to Delhi on Friday, the day the poll results will be out, to participate in the party parliamentary board meeting that will take a call on future strategy if the NDA is voted to power.

A senior leader said the saffron outfit may not need support of parties outside the NDA fold, as they are coming to power on the strength of their 25-party alliance.

But, their confidence three days ahead of the results, came with a rider that they are open to support from any party which is willing to help their government in the development of the nation.

When asked what would be the outcome of the polls in seats contested by strong leaders like SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav in Azamgarh and Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi in Amethi, the BJP leader claimed that their candidate Ramakant Yadav has a chance to upset the tallest OBC leader of UP while Smriti Irani is putting up a good fight in the Gandhi pocket borough.

Even the Congress leaders’ assessment is that Rahul’s victory margin will be reduced this time due to Modi factor.

The BJP leader also claimed that they were able to make inroads into the citadel of former prime minister Chandrasekhar in Ballia, where his son and sitting SP MP Neraj is trying to retain his seat.
