No respite for Whitefield residents from power cuts

Last Updated 15 May 2014, 19:56 IST

Power continues to play hide and seek in the IT hub of Whitefield. The residents have been witnessing power cuts for the last 36 hours, while repeated complaints to Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (Bescom) have been of little help.

Power was restored in Whitefield on Wednesday night. But the relief turned out to be temporary as the entire area was plunged in darkness again after some time. Several residents who complained to Bescom were told that there was a transformer failure and that power will be restored soon.

“The supply was restored in the night. But it was for a brief period. The power cut was back in the morning. Even now, there is no power here,” Madangopal, a resident said. While the residential areas are rendered powerless, commercial centres have been found illuminated with power from generators round-the-clock.

Bescom Managing Director Pankaj Kumar Pandey said the power cut is due to failure of a transformer at the Kadugodi station of the Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Limited (KPTCL).

“It is a 66-KVA KPTCL station, where the transformer has failed. We are making efforts to restore power supply by drawing power from another sub-station,” he explained. “The situation will continue for another day. We are in talks with KPTCL to restore the situation to normalcy,” he added.
