PM candidature helped Modi sweep Gujarat

With the BJP touting Mission 26 for Gujarat right from the start of its electoral campaign, the voters in the state had enough time and opportunity to make up their minds before casting their votes.

They were single-mindedly  committed to was NaMo and Gujarat’s chance to vote up the Prime Minister of the country.

Riding high on the ‘son of the soil’, the Gujarat results created a record of sorts. This the first time that the Congress has not unable to win even a single seat in the state in a Lok Sabha election.

The BJP made a clean sweep of the polls winning all 26 seats to the Lok Sabha, decimating the Congress.

It was not just about routing the Congress but also the desire of the people to send a PM in Delhi from Gujarat, the second one after Morarji Desai.

So while the nation might have voted for change, the people of Gujarat voted with pride and emotion.

Another first recorded in these elections was that of Chief Minister and prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi winning with a record margin from the Vadodara seat.

Modi recorded a victory margin of 5.7 lakh votes.

The Congress was banking on winning a few like Anand, held by former MP Bharatsinh Solanki, and Sabrkantha contested by Shankersinh Vaghela.  But even they were wiped out.

The BJP has also shown a surge in Guajrat’s tribal heartland of the Panchmahals and Dahod.

Reacting to the humiliating defeat, Gujarat Congress chief Arjun Modhwadia said that the party would look into the reasons for the complete rout.

The party lost out even in its traditional strongholds and in the all-important Saurashtra region, it had no impact.

fact, one of the candidates from the region, Vikram Madam, had held a media conference immediately after the voting ot state that he would lose to his niece and BJP candidate Poonam Madam.
