The City toppers in the Indian School Certificate (ISC) or Class 12 examination belong to the new genre of  ‘smart students.’

Take for instance Aditya Varna Iyer from Bishop Cotton Boys School who scored 98.25 percent in Science, the highest in the State. His classmate, Shreenahata, also secured equal score.

Speaking to the Deccan Herald, Aditya said “I had no specific routine preparing for the exam. I would only listen to the teachers in the  class and revise the portions at home. Most of my learning was at school,” said Aditya.

Aditya has now set his eyes on studying Theoretical Physics and has already got a full scholarship at Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.

“I have also got a seat at Imperial College in London although not on a full scholarship. I will visit both the campuses soon, although I am quite sure that it will ultimately be the Imperial College,” he said. Aditya has also appeared for various examinations such as the CET and has also qualified for the JEE (Advanced). But he says pure engineering courses will not give him “exposure of pure science”.

Pavan Srinivas of Vidya Niketan School, Hebbal, came second in the State in Science by securing 98 per cent marks.

Sneha Narayan of Bethany High School secured a 93 percent in the Arts. “My classes were very interesting and teachers very supportive. I did not follow a specific routine and only revised the daily lessons,” she said. Sneha will pursue Fashion Designing in Shanghai. Another topper, Miriam Ann Philip from the same school got 94.25 percent in Commerce. She is looking forward to studying BCom at Christ University.

“Teachers in my school taught in a very systematic manner and there was no pressure even till the last moment. In fact, I never studied too much,”she said.
