B C Tilak won the Elite Indian men’s race at the World 10K, leading an Army sweep of the podium.

Tilak, hailing from Coorg and attached with the 26 Air Defence, clocked 30 minutes 26 seconds to finish ahead of Anish Thapa (30:38) and Nitendra Singh Rawat (30:47).

Trained by the current Junior national coach J S Bhatia, Tilak was making his third appearance here. “Feels good to win,” said Tilak. “But the timing wasn’t good due to the late start.” Swati Gadhave won the women’s race for Indian runners. Swati, who was second in 2012 and sixth in 2011, clocked 37:22 -- the second slowest winning time here after Preeti L Rao’s 37:47 from 2010. Jayashree Boragee (37:35) and Supriya Patil (37:46) took the second and third spots, completing a sweep for Maharashtra.
