'Join hands with MCC to beautify City'

Mangalore Mayor Mahabala Marla has sought the industries and corporate houses in the city to join their hands with the Mangalore City Corporation for the beautification of Mangalore under corporate social responsibility.

Expressing dissatisfaction over the industrial and corporate sector for not extending adequate support for addressing various issues in the city, he said the organisations and corporate companies should voluntarily take up projects for the welfare of the citizens. “The industries which are utilising all the facilities and resources of the city, should also give in return,” he said.

He was speaking after accepting felicitation from the Kanara Chamaber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) at the KCCI hall on Monday. Briefing about the MCC’s plan to beautify Mangalore with greenery, he invited the KCCI to send a representative to the green committee to be formed. Enhancing greenery should take place in a planned manner.

The Corporation is open for suggestions from the experts in the field, the Mayor said. About his plan to develop a sports complex of international standard, he said that 300 acre land acquired for Nagarjuna project will be handed over to the government soon and he would request the chief minister to reserve the same land near Maravoor bridge for the development of sports complex. 

KCCI President Mohammed Ameen submitted a memorandum to the Mayor, placing forth several demands to be fulfilled. Some of the demands are, creating clean and beautiful Mangalore, construction of footpaths, review SAS, improve Nehru Maidan ground, development of IT and ITES projects.
