Anandiben sworn in as Gujarat CM

The swearing-in ceremony of Gujarat’s first woman Chief Minister Anandiben Patel turned into a show of strength by the BJP in the presence of prime minister-designate Narendra Modi.

The ceremony was held at the Mahatma Mandir in Gandhinagar where Modi has been holding his much publicised Vibrant Gujarat Summits.

The oath of office and secrecy was administered by Governor Kamla Beniwal at the auspicious moment of 12:39 pm in the presence of party president Rajnath Singh, patriarch L K Advani and senior leaders Murli Manohar Joshi and Sushma Swaraj.

Anandiben was also greeted by chief ministers of BJP-ruled states – Vasundhara Raje of Rajasthan, Raman Singh of Chhattisgarh and Shivraj Singh Chouhan of Madhya Pradesh.

NDA allies, Chief Minister of Punjab Parkash Singh Badal and his deputy Sukhbir Singh Badal of the Akali Dal, were also present. Apart from the 72-year-old Anandiben, six cabinet ministers and 14 ministers of state took oath of office.
