Last Updated 11 December 2009, 19:41 IST

The federation, spearheading the agitation since Monday has invited the All India Motor Transport Congress (AIMTC) for talks for a nationwide strike.

The key demand by the Federation of Karnataka State Lorry Owners and Agents (FKSLOA) is the renewal of existing permits and issue of new permits for sand extraction and transportation in the State. The Mines and Geology department have not responded to the demand yet.  President of the Karnataka State Developers Association and proprietor of Krishna Builders, Krishnamoorthy, says that a truckload of sand has zoomed from its earlier price of Rs 7,000 to Rs 8,000 to Rs 20,000 to Rs 22,000.
