Heavy rain lashes Bangalore South

 Heavy rain coupled with hailstones lashed parts of Bangalore South on Monday evening causing power cuts and water-logging in areas such as Konankunte, Kathriguppe, Kumaraswamy Layout, Banashankari, Kalidasanagar and surrounding areas.

The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) control room received around five complaints regarding uprooting of trees. One tree was uprooted at Dayanand Sagar College, one each in Kumaraswamy Layout, Kanakapura Main Road in Doddakallasandra and Padmanabhanagar near Maheshwara temple. An electricity pole was also uprooted in Kumaraswamy Layout. The Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board received complaints of water- logging and manhole overflow from Katriguppe and Banashankari areas.

According to the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre, isolated places in Konankunte received a maximum rainfall of 58mm in the evening; Kumaraswamy Layout 44.5mm of rainfall; Gottigere on Bannerghatta Road 20.5mm; Uttarahalli 18.5 mm; Basavanagudi 17.5 mm; Anjanapura 13.5mm; Hemmigepura 13mm; Begur 10.5mm; Bilekahalli 5mm; Pattabhiramnagar 4.5mm; and BTM Layout 2.5mm.Isolated places around the Gali Anjaneya Temple on Mysore Road received just around 3mm of rainfall.

According to the Meteorological Department, Bangalore is expected to receive pre-monsoon showers for the next three days when heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in parts of isolated areas in the City.
