Two teenage girls were among at least nine people killed in the severe dust storm that hit the capital on Friday evening.

At least 20 cases of injuries have been reported and more similar cases could emerge.

Uprooted trees and fallen walls were the reasons attributed to at least seven of these known fatalities.

A 17-year-old girl Anu died a brutal death after a flying tin roof from her neighbour’s house beheaded her in east Delhi’s Kasturba Nagar.

Her mother Manjeet Kaur was also seriously injured in the same accident and was admitted to hospital.

In south-west Delhi’s Najafgarh, an 18-year-old class 12 girl was crushed by a six foot wall of a farmhouse.

Asha Malik was returning home from tuitions and was walking past the farmhouse near a Sai Baba temple when the wall caved in over her.

In west Delhi’s Naraina, a 35-year-old tempo driver was crushed to death while he and his help Rajender were loading printing material onto his vehicle.

Rajender was injured in the accident caused by the collapse of an under-construction wall on the third floor of a nearby building.

A 40-year-old man working with a cleaning agency was found dead at IGI Airport by his colleagues soon after the storm receded.

It is not clear whether Pradeep, a native of Bihar, fell from a heavy vehicle due to the impact of the storm or was hit by a container. Several containers were also found lying next to him and CCTV footages are being scanned to check what exactly caused his death.

In central Delhi’s IP Estate, 24-year-old cab driver Chattarpal died when a tree fell on his vehicle at 5.30 pm on Friday. He was the only occupied in the car.

In ITO, 30-year-old Satya Prakash died after a tree fell on his Indica car, in which two of his friends were also travelling. His friends are receiving treatment in hospital.

A similar incident was reported from Chandni Chowk, where 28-year-old Younis was crushed in his car by an uprooted tree.

A 26-year-old labourer Mohammad Yasin was also crushed by a wall in Shalimar Bagh, while a 30-year-old unidentified man was found dead under a fallen tree in west Delhi’s Uttam Nagar.
