Ronjan Sodhi misses out on CWG trip

Trap shooter Ronjan Sodhi didn’t find a place in the 30-member Indian squad for the forthcoming Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, scheduled to be held from July 23 to August 3.

The National Rifle Association of India's selection committee on Friday picked the shotgun team that has 10 shooters competing in six events.  The teams for rifle/pistol events were selected last month.

The shooters were chosen on the basis of scores in the selection trials held earlier this month at the ISSF Shotgun World Cup in Almaty.

Meanwhile, the team includes Olympic gold medallist Abhinav Bindra, recent ISSF World Cup winner Manavjit Singh Sandhu, women pistol shooter Heena Sidhu and London Olympics bronze medallist Gagan Narang.

India shooters have always performed well in the Commonwealth Games. In the last edition at home, Indian shooters won 14 gold, 11 silver and five bronze medals.

Team: Men: 50m rifle 3-position: Sanjeev Rajput, Gagan Narang. 50m rifle prone: Gagan Narang, Joydeep Karmakar. 10m rifle: Abhinav Bindra, Ravi Kumar. 25m rapid fire pistol: Vijay Kumar, Harpreet Singh. 50m pistol: Jitu Rai, Gurpal Singh. 10m pistol: P N Prakash, Om Prakash. Trap: Manavjit Singh Sandhu, Mansher Singh. Double trap: Mohd Asab, Ankur Mittal. Skeet: Mairaj Ahmad Khan, Baba PS Bedi.

Women: 50m 3 rifle position: Lajja Gauswami, Elizabeth Susan Koshy. 50m rifle prone: Lajja Gauswami, Meena Kumari. 10m rifle: Ayonika Paul, Apurvi Chandela. 25m pistol: Rahi Sarnobat, Anisa Sayyed. 10m pistol: Heena Sidhu, Malaika Goel,. Trap: Shreyasi Singh, Seema Tomar.

Double trap: Shreyasi Singh, Varsha Varman. 

Skeet: Arti Singh Rao.
