The State unit of the BJP has convened a meeting of its legislature party on Tuesday to discuss among others upcoming elections to Legislative Council and Rajya Sabha.

The party has already decided to field former deputy chief minister K S Eshwarappa in the elections, wherein MLAs are the voters.

Eshwarappa lost his elections from Shimoga in the 2013 Assembly polls. He is likely to file his nomination papers on Tuesday morning. Elections will be held for seven Council seats.

Besides, the meeting will discus about elections to four Rajya Sabha seats. The party is said to be planning to field Union Minister Nirmala Seetharaman.

The ruling Congress is still undecided on its candidates.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and KPCC chief G Parameshwara are likely to go to Delhi on June 4 to hold meeting with the party high command in this regard.

The party can win at least two Rajya Sabha seats and four Council seats.

This apart, K Padmarajan filed nomination papers for the Rajya Sabha elections on Monday as an independent candidate. He, however, does not have any proposers, official sources said.
