A day after Union minister Gopinath Munde was killed in a road accident, a Tata Sumo vehicle rammed into Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh chief Mohan Bhagwat’s cavalcade while he was headed to the IGI Airport in the national capital.

However, no one was injured in the accident and the RSS chief continued on his journey after a brief halt.

The driver was arrested soon after the incident and was released on bail later in the evening.

He has been charged with rash and negligent driving. The offending vehicle belonged to the Haryana Government and was being driven by Sohanlal, a resident of Pinjore in Haryana.
He told police that he noticed the signal turning red and applied brakes. But the brakes got jammed, leading to him crashing into the security escort car.

The incident took place at 12:06 pm at Parade Road in south-west Delhi’s Cantonment area. Bhagwat was on his way to the airport to take a flight to Gorakhpur. Suddenly a Tata Sumo vehicle hit an Ambassador car that was following Bhagwat’s car as part of the security escort. The Ambassador car in turn hit Bhagwat’s car.

The cavalcade came to a halt immediately after the accident. Bhagwat left for the airport in another private car soon after the accident.
