High alert at airports after Karachi attack

Home Minister Rajnath Singh has directed states to scale up security at all airports following a terror attack at Karachi airport in Pakistan.

The Ministry of Home Affairs issued an advisory to airports across the country to stay on high alert for any Karachi-style assault by terrorist groups.

The Centre’s warning saw security beefed up at both terminals of the Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi. Additional barricades have been put up on roads leading to the airport and vehicles are being randomly checked.

In a brazen attack on Sunday night, heavily armed Pakistani Taliban militants launched an attack on Karachi airport, killing at least 29 people including 10 terrorists. Security forces eventually regained control over the key facility.
