Govt to restore tourist-safe image

Keen on increasing foreign exchange earnings from the tourism sector, the NDA government will soon chalk out a strategy to “bring back” India’s image as a safe tourist destination.

“I am aware of the fact that the tourism industry in India today is concerned about the issue of safety and security of tourists, especially women tourists. I would like to assure you that it is our utmost concern too.

We will soon work out a PR plan and strategy to bring back the image of India as a safe destination,” Tourism and Culture Minister Shripad Yesso Naik said.He was addressing a meeting of the Indian Association of Tour Operators here on Tuesday.

In its poll manifesto for the 16th Lok Sabha elections, the BJP had identified tourism as a key sector to drive socio-economic progress and earn foreign exchange in the country.
